Online Marketing – Green is the New Sexy
So I facebook’d Tim and told him I wanted to guest post on his blog then thought:
Ohhh Snap. I’m still kind of a green at this online network/affiliate marketing niche. What content would I write that would add value to his blog?
Then it hit me (insert light bulb moment here).
I’ll write about me. Well, not about me literally but about all the people like me who have recently joined our industry. The online marketers who have a passion for their businesses. The ones want to explode their downlines and lead their teams to success. The ones who want to build a list to rival some of the gurus in our niche.
The ones who want financial freedom.
The problem is that there is SO MUCH information out there to learn, to absorb, and to implement. Squeeze pages, SEO, keywords, adding value, building your list, PPC, driving traffic to your money site, etc. Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY!
All of those things are critical to building your business. Building your BRAND. But where to begin without feeling completely overwhelmed?
I’ll tell you what I’ve learned this year.
It’s been working for me. Take what applies to you and leave the rest. Here we go…
Warning: The following information isn’t new. You’ve probably read this elsewhere but read it again. Repetition is important. Get this stuff drilled in your sub-conscience. It’s KEY to building momentum in your business.
Commit –Accept the fact that you are going to lose sleep plus shed some blood, sweat and tears. If you won’t do this, you’re not committed to your business and won’t be in it for the long haul. Even if you’re brand spanking new, treat your business as the million dollar company you want it to become. Don’t treat it like a hobby or that’s all it will ever be.
Set your goals – What are you working towards? Do you have a business model or plan? If I want to bring 12 people into my business in the next 30 days, how will I accomplish that? Write down your action plan AND your long-term goals then put it on your desktop, laptop or wherever you’ll see it DAILY. Don’t fly blind or you’ll crash and burn.
Don’t listen to the haters or care what they think – Let it roll off like water my friends. Trust me. I’ve been hearing it a lot this year. Leave that person behind and find someone that has the same burning desire to succeed that you have. If you waste your precious energy fuming about the person who laughed at your business or threw the words ‘scam’ or ‘pyramid scheme’ at you, that energy and drive will be continually sucked right out of you. You’ll lose that momentum. Surround yourself with supporters. They don’t have to be in the same business as yours. Just bathe in their positive attitudes and let it soak in (wow that was a total Zen moment).
Be Realistic – Repeat after me: My business will NOT explode overnight. I will NOT make a million dollars in 30 days (ok so if that happens awesome… but seriously folks, probably not). It takes time to build a list or build a downline. I’d rather have a smaller list that I’m building at a slower pace which trusts me and the value I can share with them than a huge list which could give a hoot about me or anything I had to say. It takes time to build your brand and to gain a following that values you. Integrity is everything, especially when your name IS your brand.
Be Consistent – This is HUGE. What will you do every day to grow your business? Have you set a schedule of tasks? How are you building relationships with your list? For example, today I write two high value content articles for my blog which I will schedule to post tomorrow and on Thursday. Next, I’ll spend 30 minutes responding to comments on my facebook. I also need to spend ‘X’ amount of time tweeting and replying to direct tweets. Next I need to read up on SEO and article marketing so I can increase traffic to my blog. I’ll then use about 15 minutes searching for a few webinars that I register for to learn more about those two topics. Finally, I need to start planning out discussion points for my team’s weekly conference call. I find when I am laser-focused on my tasks, I can accomplish SO MUCH MORE in a smaller amount of time then after I’m done, I get to spin around in my chair while doing my happy dance.
Now raise your right hand and repeat after me: I will NOT get sucked into a social media black hole of grazing from site to site clicking on links and more links and more links till it’s been an hour and I haven’t accomplished diddly. Ok so before you think I’m judging you? I’m not! I’ve done this many a time so I am totally aware what a non-valued time sucker this habit is!
So have you noticed anything yet?
I haven’t written at all about lead-capture pages, ppc, keywords, etc. No, I’m not losing my mind. Those things are CRITICAL. It’s a given that one needs to learn the technical aspects of how to market, drive traffic, build opt-in pages, etc or you’re done before you start. If you’re not at a comfortable level with these things, just keep going! Learn from your peers, ask tons of questions, and don’t be intimidated! I’m right there in the trenches with you!
Instead, for this post, I decided to focus on the ORGANIZATION and MINDSET which we need to be in, in order to implement the techie things above and get the ball rolling. In many a new marketers’ zest and eagerness to become business builders, some may not consider the foundation they need to create first like thinking long-term, developing daily action plans, and mapping out/revisiting strategies. You have to frame the house before you hang the drywall, right? If not, that house will just tumble down. Picture that scenario in a new marketer’s business. Talk about causing MASSIVE disruption in his/her momentum.
Think about these things my friends. Incorporate as you see fit.
I love the excitement of the network marketing industry. The change, the evolution, the newest ‘next best thing’. It challenges me. MY mindset and MY organization. It ROCKS to see my business evolve. To see ME evolve as a business builder.
It’s so awesome being green right now.
So c’mon and get moving. Only then will you get to spin around in YOUR chair and do YOUR happy dance.

Implementation in this business is key don’t be afraid to try something. Dive right in and take action.
